The Lost Art of Building It Yourself

I don’t know that home-brewing in amateur radio is really lost, but it is certainly much harder to find these days. In the old days a ham radio operator had to build most if not all of his or her equipment. Today, most hams buy their equipment ready-made. It’s easy to understand why; today’s technology in radio communications is far beyond most hams’ abilities to understand. Pop the top on most any radio and most of us just put it back on and tighten the screws back down. However, amateur radio does have one area that is currently growing, and it readily supports building home-brew equipment. That area is QRP.
